There have been concerns in the media and by some regulatory bodies, governments, and environmental groups about the PFAS, so-called "forever chemicals" being found in biosolids. The Ontario Biosolids Council, representing companies who land apply about 80% of all biosolids on Ontario farms, are also concerned. However, biosolids are not the problem.
The prolific use of these chemicals to waterproof fabrics, prevent fires, and in wrappers in fast food and in coffee cups, as well as in many other products ... are the source of the problem.
We are committed to working with governments, regulators, and scientists to develop sound practices to reduce PFAS in the wastewater stream. We urge much more scientific research be conducted on how to remove PFAS from wastewater and policies that limit and eliminate the use of these chemicals where ever possible.
